Bolster Your Gas & Grocery Budgets–Trade Used Media for Cash
Gas prices, food prices, inflation “Oh, my!” As if you have not yet noticed at your local gas pump or grocery, the prices seem to be creeping up a bit more each time you go to the grocery store or gas pump. While high gas prices have dipped ever so slightly in the past week or so in some areas, according to the Energy Information Administration, they remain very high and food prices keep on rising. Just look at this chart from CNN.com comparing food price increases from January 2010 to January 2011.
According to the Washington Post, “Consumer spending rose 0.4 percent in April but much of the gain reflected higher prices for food and gasoline. With inflation removed, the spending increase was a much weaker 0.1 percent.” It is no wonder many of us have resorted to eating out less, using coupons more and putting summer vacations on the back burner so to speak. AbundaTrade.com would like to make your summer a little easier by putting more cash in your wallet.
Why not supplement your gas and grocery budgets by cleaning out your closets and media centers? You know those books you have not read in years, the video games you have already beaten a dozen times, the CD you used to listen to every day but now can’t stand, or the movie you loved and memorized every line of ten years ago. Get them out, dust them off, and enter them into our online trade calculator to see their estimated value. Then just box them up and ship them to us. You may even be eligible for free shipping. Once we receive and evaluate your stuff, you tell us if you prefer us to deposit your cash directly into your PayPal account or mail you a check. Can you say “Ka-ching?!”
All of us on Team AbundaTrade, including Bootsie, A.K.A. Bootleg D. Cat, would like to take a moment to say, “We hope you all have a fabulous, fun and safe Summer 2011! Thank you AbundaTrade customers!”

Charleston and the Origin of Memorial Day
On Monday, we as a nation took the time to remember those who have served, who are currently serving, and who have given their lives in the defense of the United States of America and the values she stands for. We always appreciate what our men and women in uniform do and have done, but on Memorial Day, we take an extra step back to look at just how much our armed services have done to protect us and our way of life – and just how much it has cost them too. However, not many people think about how Memorial Day began, which is quite an amazing tale in itself.
On Memorial Day, the New York Post ran an in-depth article detailing the origins of Memorial Day. In this fascinating read, we learn that the first Memorial Day occurred right here in Charleston in 1865 during the Civil War. Freed slaves and abolitionists gathered in Charleston, now largely deserted by most whites after Union bombardment, to pay respect to the Union soldiers that had given their lives so that slaves may be free.
The first Memorial Day ceremonies took place at the city’s Washington Race Course and Jockey Club, which had been converted into a Confederate prison of harsh conditions, until it was abandoned as the Union army approached the city. A large group of black women descended upon this once cruel location, and proceeded to give proper reburial to the Union soldiers who had perished there. Once the site was prepared, a parade of 10,000 black schoolchildren, freed slaves, and white missionaries and teachers was held on the grounds. Once the parade was over, people “enjoyed picnics, listened to speeches and watched soldiers drill” – much like how many of us celebrate Memorial Day today.
In only a few short years from this event, the concept of Memorial Day had spread throughout the nation, becoming an event to pay respect to all who had fallen in the Civil War. Eventually, Memorial Day grew to encompass a day to reflect and appreciate all armed service men and women across our history, and to pay them the respect they so richly deserve.
The New York Times has another fabulous article regarding the origins of Memorial Day in Charleston. We invite you to shop the AbundaTrade.com online store for movies and books about our great military patriots, and hopefully gain some more insight into just how much our nation’s bravest have done to make our country safe and free.

SC Senate Reaches Deal with Amazon Bringing More Jobs to the State
In a time when AbundaTrade’s home state of South Carolina is suffering unemployment rates of 9.6% in April, higher than the national average of 8.7%, (according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics,) the South Carolina Senate stayed in session until after 12:00 a.m. this morning to reach a compromise with Amazon, the online retailer. According to Robert Kittle, reporter and photographer for News Channel 7‘s Columbia Bureau, “The deal would exempt Amazon.com from collecting the state sales tax for five years in exchange for the company’s opening a large distribution facility in Lexington County that creates at least 2,000 new jobs with health benefits. The deal also requires Amazon to invest at least $125 million in the state.” For more details read Kittle’s full article here.
While we may not be adding 2,000 jobs to South Carolina just yet, the small but mighty AbundaTrade.com is proud to employ 22 South Carolinians. Meet our team here. Okay, so it’s actually 24 employees when you include our “Security Team” of Bootsie, A.K.A. Bootleg D. Cat and Brinkley who are paid in love, attention and, of course, food, water, toys and other goodies. AbundaTrade.com uses Amazon as well as our own online shop and other online marketplaces to list and sell our products.

“L.A. Noire”, E3 Expo 2011 & Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Video Game Law Awaits Supreme Court Decision
I have not spent a lot of time playing video games since Super Mario Brothers on Nintendo
back in the 80′s. However, after reading IGN’s review of Rockstar Games’ “L.A. Noire,” I hope my husband will be picking up a copy for his PS3. According to IGN.com‘s Hilary Goldstein, “Using a brand new technology called MotionScan, “L.A. Noire” delivers pure performances from a talented group of actors. Every wrinkle, twitch, downward glance, grimace, and hard swallow is from an actor playing a part.” The facial expressions of potential suspects is so amazing I just may try my hand at attempting to solve crimes as a 1947 L.A. police detective. Developed by Team Bondi and released worldwide as of today, it is rated “M” for Mature and is available for both XBOX 360 and PS3. Continue reading

5 Greatest Movie Moms
Tomorrow, millions of people around the country will be paying well-deserved attention and admiration to the fine ladies that changed our diapers, kissed our boo-boos, and often informed us that they had brought us into this world – and that they could take us out of it too. However, there a few unsung great mothers that many of us look up to, but unfortunately they will not be receiving any cards, phone calls, or fancy dinners tomorrow. That is because they are the mothers in some of our favorite movies, and unfortunately you can’t take a DVD to Olive Garden – I mean, you can, but it’ll be weird. But as unreal as movie moms may be, many of us have a special place in our hearts for them, and that is why we here at AbundaTrade would like to take the time to honor our choice of the 5 Greatest Movie Moms!
