Through it’s Book Buddies program, Charleston Volunteers for Literacy (CVL) organizes and trains community volunteers to work one-on-one with first and second grade students in the Charleston County School District. These volunteers do not replace classroom teachers but help fill in the missing pieces so that children can learn more effectively in the classroom and enhance their reading and reading comprehension skills.
Some studies have shown that by the time a child is in 4th grade they can determine from their test scores how that child is going to perform throughout their lives. The state of California actually bases it’s future prison bed count on the current test scores of 4th grade students. These studies have shown that it is pivotal to get into the schools and reach these students at a certain time in their educational upbringing to ensure they develop the skills needed to continue on with their education through high school and college.
Having partnered with organizations such as Friends of the Charleston County Library the folks here at AbundaTrade.com understand that these programs need the support of the community and local businesses. We’re happy to announce that through this new partnership AbundaTrade.com will be donating children’s books to the Book Buddies program. These books will be given to the students to take home so their education and love for reading can continue beyond the classroom.
If you have books that you would like to donate to the cause you can contact us at marketing@AbundaTrade.com or if you are interested in donating the proceeds of your CD, DVD, Video Game, or Book trade you can contact us at trade@AbundaTrade.com.
